the box on the top controls the light after an ac signal is received from the reg/rct

the stator will support this type of control fine

BUT WHY??? is my question

it is possible go for it I say!!!

but I like the path of least resistance.

Okay, from the "guy that cannot just turn the light switch "on" and leave it on." I thought I mentioned in the first post that I am replacing both the forward controls with modern controls, but I guess I forgot. Modern controls (which are multiple times cheaper than replacement originals) don't have a light switch. I also don't want a switch because A, I would probably forget to turn them on :(, and B, I don't want to add a switch to make up for the one not on the modern controls. Plus, I like bringing modern features to old bikes. It is one of the reasons I also have a Dyna ignition. And, like I said earlier, I am very interested in learning more about electronics.;)

I have the circuit working on bread board. It'll work, as I said with just one transistor and one diode, but I realized if the neutral light bulb burns out, the lights won't come on. To fix this I had to add one resistor. I also added one more diode to protect the transistor. It'll take about a day or so for me to draw it up. Everything should be available at Radio Shack, at least last time I checked. They've been getting rid of lot of their components.

I know how to do it.I know what parts to use

zx series all use these as do yamaha YZF vulcan bikes too

honda has a 2 position starter button to shut off light while electric starting.

thanks buddy just trying to help a guy that cannot just turn the light switch "on" and leave it on

Well then, by all means draw it up and enlighten us. I would love to see it done for less than $10. That would really help us all out. Thanks in advance for the help.

why not just wire it to acc side of ignition switch so when the key is on,the light is on?i guess everybody just likes lots of switches and relays:P

Well, sometimes the headlight is enough to slow the starter down a tad. It shouldn't, but if the battery is old or you spend too much time in city traffic, the battery may be too weak to power the headlight and start the bike.

I think, for both of us, it's just to practice tinkering. Plus it's a little bit of the neat-o factor.:)

I have it working with a non-Bosch 12v relay I have, but it should still work with the Bosch relay.
I have a tendency to update circuits while I do a write-up, so I may have to post some changes in the near future, but hopefully this is the final circuit in the next post. :)

I'll probably have to change it again, but once it's final I'll post it on my website and put a link here.

that looks AWESOME. Radio Shack part #'s and EVERYTHING! It will be tough to resist the urge to run down to radio shack on my way home from work. But I will let you finalize it first. Stupid question I am sure, can all this just be wired together or do I need some kind of little circuit board?

that is a nifty cool circuit on paper.

but I have questions on longevity, vibration resistance and 1A 50V diodes on a circuit drawing 7+ A @12 V assuming a halogen is used.

have you used this before?? I like it pretty cool design
