Have narrowed my charging problems to the stator. Resistance is supposed to be .4 ohms, but, it is fluctuating between 1.9 and 4.2 ohms.

Does anyone know of a source for a rebuilt one?

Where I got my stator repaired, at R.M Moto Électronique. Nice people, 1+ week turnaround, reasonable price (I think it was around $125 USD).

The only new aftermarket ones I've seen are the ones the guy on ebay is selling, and he doesn't list the brand. Are those any good, or do you have any other sources?

RM Stator wants 150.00 to rebuild one; that's actually more than the new ones got for from the guy on ebay.

Dennis Kirk sells one made by ElectroSport for $113.99 with free shipping, and Ricks may make one also.

According to kawasaki.com the following bikes use the same stator:

KZ650-H1 (CSR) (1981)
KZ650-H2 (CSR) (1982)
KZ650-H3 (CSR) (1983)
KZ700-A1 (1984)
KZ750-E1 (1980)
KZ750-E2 (1981)
KZ750-E3 (1982)
KZ750-F1 (LTD Shaft) (1983)
KZ750-H1 (LTD) (1980)
KZ750-H2 (LTD) (1981)
KZ750-H3 (LTD) (1982)
KZ750-H4 (LTD) (1983)
KZ750-L3 (1983)
KZ750-N1 (Spectre) (1982)
KZ750-N2 (Spectre) (1983)
KZ750-R1 (GPz) (1982)
ZX750-A1 (GPz 750) (1983)
ZX750-A2 (GPz 750) (1984)
ZX750-A3 (GPz 750) (1985)

Dennis Kirk don't list a stator for a 81 KZ650H but they do list one for the 83 ZX750A (GPz750), and it is the same according to Kawasaki.

Looks like the same one sold on eBay, but cheaper.

Thanks for going to the trouble, but, this bike is a '79 KZ650 B3. When I was troubleshooting, I already looked to see if the one from the '81 would fit, but, the wiring is different.

I emailed Dennis Kirk to see if they have one to fit the '79.

Looking at the Kawasaki site, it list the PN for the stator that fits my bike as: 21003-1005

I don't see where to look that number up to see what other bikes it fits, though.

That list from buykawasaki is not correct - I don´t know why it includes the 77 B1/C1 models, but they definitely use a different stator (21076-024, not 21003-1005). Not only is the 77 stator physically different (it fits around the flywheel), it is a 3 phase stator for an excited field alternator where most of the 650s except for the CSR models use a 1 phase stator with a permanent magnet flywheel/rotor.

If it makes you any wiser Lou (loudhvx) compiled this list of 650 stators a while back - I´m not quite sure if all the 1 phase stators are the same though, I´ll have to check up on that:

1977 B1 3phase excited field
1977 C1 custom 3phase excited field
1978 B2 1phase permanent mag
1978 C2 custom 1phase permanent mag
1978 D1 sr 1phase permanent mag
1979 B3 1phase permanent mag
1979 C3 custom 1phase permanent mag
1979 D2 sr 1phase permanent mag
1980 E1 LTD 1phase permanent mag
1980 F1 custom 1phase permanent mag
1981 H1 csr 3phase permanent mag
1982 H2 csr 3phase permanent mag
1983 H3 csr 3phase permanent mag up to KZ650DE052650
1983 H3 csr New type 3phase permanent mag starting at KZ650DE052651

Here's what I had written in my files from some time before 2005. I know that back then I would have had to check the part number on every fiche.

KZ650 Alternators:

1977 B1 standard...3phase excited field
1977 C1 custom.....3phase excited field
1978 B2 standard...1phase permanent mag
1978 C2 custom.....1phase permanent mag
1978 D1 sr...............1phase permanent mag
1979 B3 standard...1phase permanent mag
1979 C3 custom.....1phase permanent mag
1979 D2 sr...............1phase permanent mag
1980 E1 LTD............1phase permanent mag
1980 F1 custom......1phase permanent mag
1981 H1 csr.............3phase permanent mag
1982 H2 csr.............3phase permanent mag
1983 H3 csr.............3phase permanent mag up to KZ650DE052650
1983 H3 csr.............New type 3phase permanent mag starting at KZ650DE052651

The excited field does not use brushes or slip rings. The field coil is affixed to the alt. cover. The rotor is a device which rotates through the field to bring alternating poles to the stator.
The 1phase permanent magnet flywheel is part # 21050-1003 for all years.
The 1phase stator is part # 21003-1005 for all years.

BuyKawasaki.com has errors regarding the regulators and rectifiers. They show the separate rectifier is also used on the 78, but it is not. It should be the reg/rec combo which is also labeled as just a regulator.

Notice I put in a note that all the 1-phase stators are the same, so I must have checked that specifically, (if I trust myself :) ). Unfortunately, I didn't check the 750-fours.
