Hi my name Jackstack101 i'm new to this forum, i have a 1981 kz 750 ltd with the keihin cv34 carb.
i'm having issues with the idol. it's not my cable and it's not a leak in the boots. when i push down on the one of 3 small screws on the linkage between the carb 2 of them move in unison and one independently i can get the idol back to its proper setting however if i touch the throttle at all then the issue will resume . the screws can be adjusted and i'm assuming that's what needs to happen but i'm not sure how much of and adjustment to make, does anyone have experience with this?

Did you vacuum sync the carbs? Replace the rubber boots on the cylinder head? Airbox attached in backof the carbs w/air filter installed? Are the carbs clean and the pilot screws adjusted to 2.5 turns open from lightly seated?

I'd check the spark advance to be sure it's not sticking.

I have not touched the sync screws yet. I had just rtv'ed the intake boots(for a temporary fix) and tested them while running with wd40 and did not get a change in idle. The airbox is installed with stock filter. The carbs were cleaned recently and installed new oe main jets because they didnt all have the same jet size. Idle mix screws still have factory caps on them. -when it does rev up its going around 4 to 5000rpms
also thank you very much for the prompt response

You need to take the caps off and adjust the screws.

If the caps are the pressed in aluminum caps, then I'd bet real money that the carbs were not disassembled and properly cleaned.

Those carbs are not terribly complicated, but you have to have a carb synchronizing tool and a genuine Kawasaki factory service manual is indispensable. Once the carbs are spotlessly clean, then the various adjustments need to be performed in the proper sequence or you will end up chasing your tail.

One of the best synchronizers is the Morgan Carbtune.

Yes, this. Spotlessly clean. And replace the boots with new. Spraying crap on the boots is a poor indication of possible vacuum leaks. And a poor idle can often be traced to poor vacuum sync.

+1

And good boots.

Valve lash and ignition timing all must be right before one goes chasing carb adjustments.
