Hi I'm hoping someone out there has a service manual and can tell me the correct valve clearances for an 81 KZ 550 engine. Thanks in advance.

On the 1983 KZ550 the manual specifies:
intake valve is .004- .008" and
exhaust valve is .006-.010".

And, as I've mentioned before, don't bolt down the valve cover with the chain tensioner set. relaese the tensioner when bolting down the cover and re install it after the cover is on.

A manual will usually give those types of warnings that may not seem obvious, so a manual would be a good thing to get.
