About excessive wear on the crankshaft, the rod bearings will see the same force either way since it will be the same bore and CR. So the wear will be on the main bearings and camchain. But everybody always says the main bearings are very strong ...

I'm not saying it will make it worse. It's there to lessen perceived vibration. I worked on one that had it come apart. The thing hopped around on it's centerstand like mad. Opened it up to find it was out of sync due to broken parts. Got new ones and it vibrated but it ran good enough to ride. As said before, if just changing the cams, it could be set back as it was if it was too bad.

Yes that's why I want to try it, within an hour it can be returned to stock. I am still waiting to hear from the machine shop, I have no idea what that kind of work will cost. So far I have only heard of 1 shop in Denmark that is capable of doing it.

I have an '80 XS 650. I've done some minor mods to her to suite me. I'm on XS650.com as azman857 if you want to check out my girl. They are great bikes.
Getting backto your "twingle". Do it. Let us know how she goes. Should be a real stump puller! Thump away!
I don't have a plan and I'm sticken' to it! '77 KZ 650 / 750 GPz custom project in progress
