Hi
Glad to see the site back up. Great resource.
I am putting my 1983 KZ750L3 back on the road after several years of sitting in a heated basement on the center stand. My old battery ruined the battery box and I took it apart to get it bead blasted and re-painted. Then at least 10 years and 2 kids happened.

Got a few re-assembly questions. I will say up front I am terrible at maps, wiring diagrams and the like. Hoping someone has some answers or pics of their own L3 that I can look at to help slip this back together.

First, what does the indicated elec connection connect to? I have no more elec parts in the box. Suggestions? It's a six lead connection. Cannot figure it out.

Next, where does this (arrow) lower ground bolt on??

Up next, these parts do not seem to be part of the 1983 KZ750 battery box assembly, correct?

Finally, what connects to these tiny leads on the LHS of the battery box? They have kind of a curved connection.

Also, do I have this right that there are two fuse boxes in this bike? (Mine does, at the moment.)

Finally, here is a pic of the bike in the 1990s glory days when it was my daily rider.

Thanks again for the site and any help. A fellow L3 owner with a camera would be superhero now.

Top to bottom.

Maybe the reserve lighting device plugs into that connector? What are the wire colors?

Starter motor/solenoid wire? Connects to starter solenoid there right behind it?

Brackets --- don't know? For the horns or some other electrical device?

The little flag connectors maybe connect to either the turn signal relay or hazard relay? little cylindrical cans --- one visible in right side of photo

Nice bike!

1) Not sure is it off the main loom? what are the wire colours?

2) That is your battery lives : one from the battery + to solenoid relay (the cylindrical bit with two thin and two fat leads) and from the soleniod to the starter motor terminal, on the starter motor body.
Solenoid relay uses the two little starter button wires to switch a heavy duty contactor joined by the fat battery leads.
Your battery - ve terminal also uses a thick lead bolted onto the engine, that is the ground.

3) Don't recognise those parts

4) hazard warning relay, two orange/green wires. Like your indicator flasher unit.

The main fuebox has 3 fuses, there might also be an accessories fusebox - the 2nd one.

That looks nice, I've got an 82 GPz750 R1, great bikes.

Here's a site w/ a pdf manual & wiring diagrams. mbsween.bike-night KZ750L3 page
Scroll down & click "The Bible" link. Also, the Partzilla site has parts diagrams.

Note: not applicable to the 750-L3, but some of the wiring diagrams are mislabeled in the links.
The 1981 Ltd is an H2, the 82 is an H3, & the 83 is an H4. .... search tags mbsween KZ750L3.

Hi
Thanks for the help.

Now I have the two leads going to the solenoid. The positive (red cable to battery) is on the right and the black goes to the ground under the starter is on the left. Hopefully that is correct?

Also, better picture of the connection missing a connection. I think it is the reserve lighting unit. I've ordered one.

...goes to the starter motor POSITIVE terminal, only one live battery connection through the solenoid relay as it the starter grounded to the engine anyway.

Yes, it is the reserve lighting block connector, we didn't get those on the euro models.

Glad you are getting it sorted.
