Every picture I see of guys bikes tore apart look like _--_ if my firing order were to be 1243 as my clymer tells me shouldn't it look something like -_-_ or _-_- with 1 and 4 firing opposite of 2 and 3? That being said its always seemed like its missed thats why im working on it. but the other night i fired it up for a minute and felt my headers. 3&4 were warm but 1&2 burnt the shit out of me. should i switch up 3&4 and see if thats the problem?

1 and4 one coil 2and 3 the other coil 1 being shifterside then 2-3-4

thanks gorack thats what i was thinkin i just came from switchin it and idle came up but there was some faint popping that i've never heard before. any ideas?

_--_ is correct.

On the large, inline four KZ's, (900, 1000, 1100)
the left coil has a black wire and fires 1 and 4.
The right coil has a green wire and fires 2 and 3.

When looking at the points, the left points connect to the black wire, and the right points connect to the green wire.

(On the smaller inline four KZ's, (400, 500, 550, 650, 700, 750)
the 1-4 coil with black wire is on the right side of the frame,
and 2-3 coil with green wire is on the left side of the frame.)


Obviously, a previous owner could have re-arranged things, but that is how it came from the factory.

The ignition coils have two(2) ports, which ever will go to the correct sparkplugs is how the factory wired them. As mentioned, the LEFT coil will spark #1 and #4 and the RIGHT coil #2 and #3.

The smaller 4's(550's, 650's and 750's) are wired backwards to the bigger 4's.

LOL patton thats funny. as far as the wires go. i switched me because im that the word wait. what is that? anyway, i get some poppin and crackin from the exhaust but it run like i a champ with the exempting of second gear. i sift it slips, if i baby it it will catch but if i put it in to third its like ridin in a caddy, smooth as hell? do i need to replace those gears?

Could be the gear dogs, or a fork issue... or drum issue... will require close inspection. Use a manual and start spec'ing.
