i have bought a to put a busa front end on a cb750.
so i am familiar with the wedge lock but had never seen the sliding cylinder type clamping system of your triple.
this bike is very nicely done.

how does this mount not turn with the turning steering stem ????

There's a bearing recessed in the clamp to the fairing stay so the stem can rotate independently of the mount. You can see the grub screw that holds the outer race of the bearing in.

Yeah I like the design, I'm not sure it provides as much "clamping" strength as a traditional as it's effectively a point load on either side of the tube. Should provide the same strength as the wedge type would, Will see if there's any flex between the top and bottom yokes during testing, but I doubt there will be.

BTW that cognito moto is amazingly clean. Would love to see pics of the CB with the busa front.

a bearing makes sense now,your buddy is a tricky lil feller now ain't he!?!?!
the cognito stuff is very nice and reasonably priced.cheaper than me making it and sweating the details.i can just buy theres and then mod it for bars gauges etc.
the cb isn't much to look at yet.i still have swingarm to build,seat pan tail piece to fab etc.it's getting a list of motogadget goodies,c-5 ignition, some posh switches with an acewell,and one of carpy's yosh replica headers painted black.
i'll have to post pics as i get further along

He certainly is, and would be very pleased to hear that. Some really nice details he's put in, and I'm pretty particular but he just takes it that little bit further :)

Yeah the cognito stuff is great, but shipping to Australia is killer, hence the need to locally fab a lot of stuff. That sounds like a sweet little package for the CB :)

Yep, I just had a set of clamps made up for a Honda project that have the same cam system on the top clamp, very clean and works great, my set up is similar to Black Banshee's... ;)

Re shipping, I get stuff shipped from the States regularly, even with the shipping cost, most things ends up cheaper than being made here, I've shipped suspension parts including forks, wheel sets, custom throttle bodies, triple clamps, engine blocks, piston kits, 4 into 1's and piles of other stuff, manufacturing costs in the USA blow Aussie prices out of the water.... ;)

That is one sexy bit of gear, exactly the sort of bike that gets my juices flowing, very nice work... ;)

This isn't a criticism, just an observation, In my opinion the bike would look perfect with a squarer, Z1000MK2 tank, you can actually by them to suit the Zephyr frame too.... B) {just being picky, Ignore me}...

Funny you mention that, I spent ages looking for a z1000 tank and the prices were eye watering, so I went with what I had.

I would prefer a squarer tank, but I think as it is, the lines from different angles flow well enough for me. Different shades on the paint highlight the angles too, but it's such a small issue that I'm happy to live with it :)
