I admire the fact that you are diving into the ole KZ to upgrade, so to speak, but why not just buy a complete ZRX1200R and have a front and rear that was originally engineered to function "as one" with a modern frame and motor?
Just curious. :)

Uh huh, spend a bunch of more money up front (and then there's the insurance thing), and then spend the same amount of money modifying it as I would spend on an older, cheaper, bike.

Plus I'm hard headed :D :D

Any issues thus far,with clearance anywhere,using the 630 chain,Mark?
And what bike did that 630 sprocket come off of,to bolt onto the REX wheel?
I'm not quite there yet Sandy.I may have a tire to chain issue but I think the frame should be fine.I havent broke down and bought a tire and chain yet. My rear hub was turnd down 9mm. and should be back Monday. It seems the later years (MK11's, maybee others?)are differant widths at the counter sprocket. So the later years have frame clearance issuse with 5/8" offsets and the early years have to machine the hubs.Just my observations so far from reading about differant projects posted.
I think the rear sprocket is a 77/78 KZ1000,but you can look it up on JT sprockets web.Let me know if you need help I could look it up.

Since I had to shim the wheel over to center it I had to offset the brake arm 5mm. as well.

how much did this cost, or how much does it generally cost(if you got a deal)?
I might be able to run a stock front sprocket if I can get enough off of the hub. offset ones arent cheap, or quite as easy to get, and definatly not as fast to get.
thx

You can get a 5/8" offset from pringle fast for $60.But make sure you do the brockerage.I did not and it cost $40 for brockerage fees. You will not be able to put on a big tire without an offset of at least 3/8".

Being of a certain age, the Zrex looks appeal to me but I have not had the opportunity to ride one yet. I hear they put out gobs of torque at any rpm in any gear but are kinda uncomfy on longer rides in their OEM config?
Someday...B)

I'm finaly moving forward on my project. I got all my motor parts in today. Crank has bean repaired ,cases, block, and head are painted. So I will assemble the motor in the next week or 2. I painted the frame today, after filling all the welds with filler.First I put on a silver base ,then a candy red , spray bomb. The pic dosnt show the colour very well .I also got my seat finished.
