1/4 mile times..z1-kz1000
Best 1/4 mile times with a stock bore stock pistons with stock carbs aftermarket pipe on a z1 and kz 1000?
Best i've done with my 74 z1 bored to a 1015 cc stock kz 1000 pistons 28mm carbs, Starcycle Racing 4 into 1, 3" over stock arm, 14 tooth
countershaft sprocket from 15, stock 35 tooth rear sprocket, 11.70@112mph:( 1.70 60' on a skinny 18" rear street tire. Anyone done better
with the same engine mods. I'm curious to see if i'm close. I know I need to work on the 60' but it is hard to improve on when I am
already leaving at 8000 rpm:o

I think you have a very good ET for that set up,but the speed should be better, considering the 11:70.Perhaps some plug checks,or jetting might get it
even better.

I have one of my last time tickets here somewhere from York US30 Dragway.
It's from back in the 70's, 12.39 on my '75 Z-1 with a 4-1 Yosh pipe.
Of course I was a lot lighter then :D

So mine being a 1015cc stock piston, the mph is about right with 117.5 main jets on a 28mm carbs. It appeared that the plugs had a tint of brown on
them and I didn't have any 115 mains to try but I think that might be a little lean if I tried them?

12.5 on my old Z1000J, but it did only have 120psi compression and burned a pint of oil every 100 miles. It was no quicker than my 650!
11.7 seems fine to me.

11.3 @ 120 on my old Z1 on a greasy Santa Pod 1/4 mile strip in England.
1015cc Action Fours 10.5:1 pistons
0.410" lift Action Fours Cams
29mm Smoothbores
Straight through 4-1 exhaust
Stock swingarm, 4.50" Avon Roadrunner Rear Tire)
KZ650 Shocks
Lightened a fair amount - no starter, no center stand, no turn signals or grab rail, fiberglass rear fender, and very empty pockets...
...and looking very much like the avatar...
...oh, and back then I only weighed about 158lbs

I never ran the bike down the 1/4 mile in stock trim. When I first took it down the 1/4 I was running the big-bore kit and cams, but stock 28mm carbs
- I could not get those carbs jetted for the cams / pistons - I think my best was only in the high 11's at that point. Switching to the 29mm
carbs, my times dropped into the mid 11's fairly easily - and eventually down to 11.3. About the same time I went with the 29mm carbs, I also
switched to a Boyer electronic ignition - that too helped.
